I plan to produce a feature length documentary. I used Windows Movie Maker to edit a short and it didn’t look too bad except for title/text styles. I bought MagicX Movie Edit Pro 12 and that was kinda flat with “obnoxiously amateur” transition and special effects.
I am curious what softwares used to edit recent documentary movies “Taxi to the Dark Side” and “Jimmy Carter: Man from Plains” with cuts, name & occupation texts at the corner, ending credit and transitions.
Any of the softwares you mentioned at the beginning will probably do the job. Just be aware it is more an issue of the operator knowing what to do with that software. Anyone is just as capable of putting out crap on Media Composer as Movie Maker. You also need to realize that professionals rarely use one software to do it all, especially online editors. It is a collaboration of products to make the beauty that is cinema.
