Nikon buck master 3-9 power scope with bds on it?

is it a good scope?
for big game hunting out to say 300 yards?

I have a Nikon BuckMaster, but in the 4 x 14 power. I have it on a .300 Weatherby.
They are excellent scopes — the glass is extremely clear — even compared to my more expensive Leupolds. I think the Nikon scope is an excellent value. I’ve seen these on sale for $199 online (attached below). A Leupold may be nicer overall, but at $200 to $300 more.

I would recommend going with the 4 x 14 power for $90 more, if you are looking at 300 yards. Maybe my eyes are getting old, or maybe lazy, but my 3×9 scopes were OK to about 100 or 150 yards. The 4 x 14 power really lights things up at 200 or 250 yards, and seemed to be fine at 300 yards as well.

And I really like the Nikon BDC recticles (BDC — Bullet Drop Compensation Recticle) as well. This makes it much easier in hunting situations. If you have a 7mm Mag, or .300 Mag — you sight the center crosshairs at 200 yards. The next mark down is where these bullets will hit at 300 yards (or very close — within an inch or two).

I would highly recommend the Nikon BuckMaster for a lesser expensive scope, that can compare fairly close with much more expensive scopes. I am not sure that I have seen optics that have the clarity that Nikon does, and for an excellent price.
