Why is my half exposed film?

I'm taking pictures with a Minolta X-700 (35 mm film, ISO 400, black and white) for a photography class. The camera has worked well for a time, but has been acting up recently. When I developed my photographs, many (but not all) of the tables were only partially exposed. The part that was exposed (a the left of the box) looked like a normal picture, but then fade to black on the right side of the frame. The photos vary with how much of the plot is not exposed. I'm not using a flash. I also checked my shot at any shutter speed the camera back open, and seems to be working well and does not stick. Does anyone know what might be happening? Am I wrong, and is the trigger that is causing the problem? Could be the lens (only change to a different one)?

One of the reasons I found to this problem is "curtains" of the over shutter SLR, which were of silk made of rubber, rubber eventually becomes "sticky" and sticks to itself when wound on it's spool. This is a job for a repair of the camera, which probably try talcum powder to absorb the "stickiness", clean and lubricate the curtains, sometimes just a temporary repair. The light seals and mirror pad, you will probably replaced at the same time for the same reason. It is a job that can just as the shutter box has to be taken off the shutter curtains clean and lubricate the mechanism will need to be recalibrated. Probably be cheaper to buy another SLR, but it is worth getting an appointment. Chris
