Is this a good telephoto lens?
Alright, so I was thinking of getting a new lens for my SONY a230, and since it only came with a wide angle lens I’m looking into a telephoto lens. I was browsing on Ebay (since nowhere else in stores around me have a lens for my camera) and I came across this:

So my questions are:
1. Is Minolta a good brand of lenses and is it compatible with my a230?
2. Is it worth it for the price (50$ plus shipping)?
and if not,
3. What brand of (telephoto) lens would you recommend that is compatible with SONY alpha?

That lens will work just fine on your A230.
Tim has no clue, that is not a lens with plastic elements. Not sure where he is guessing his price from either, the only thing high end at 300mm are the various 300mm f/2.8 prime lenses, and his $1,500 won’t touch one of those.
It is just like any other makers 75-300 offering, and better than most. It is a much better lens than the Canon 75-300 III, or the Nikon 75-300 G. For $50, it is a very good deal.
