The Pro guide to selecting a head unit car audio
Ideally, your head unit is used to provide a signal to your amplifiers which is line level and you would not use its internal amplifiers (if any). They usually do not have the power and strength to drive speakers both loudly and cleanly. The line level signal is cleaner than the speaker outputs on the head unit because it is not passing through the amplifiers inside the unit. That said there are situations in which they would use the internal power unit.
No head unit typically has more than about 60watts of total output power because more would need a real supply DC-DC power supply (which does not fit into a unit with ease). According to Car Audio and Electronics company, most head units to use the same chips for internal amplifiers for all low-power products on it.
What to look for:
Usability: The head of the unit is the part of the car radio to interact with most of what is key to getting that "feel" comfortable for you. Always look at a unit storing it on a screen and use it for a while. Try browsing radio stations and CD tracks to see if it is quick and easy. If you have trouble with small buttons imagine what it will be like when you're driving! Like most models in the same price range are similar in features and sound quality, ease of use is often the deciding factor between models.
Power: Although only said he did not use the built-in power of a head unit I know sometimes it is inevitable. Note that the power specifications given by most major drive manufacturers are not accurate. They often use terms such as power of music "Or" peak power "that have little real meaning because there is no standard definition of these terms. If the power is quoted in" RMS "terms then it is usually valid. However, elsewhere there is still a misconception. Often manufacturers will quote power as "30watts RMS x 4". The "RMS" seems to mean that it is a clear indication of power, but they are implying that all 4 channels can produce 30watts RMS AT THE SAME TIME. With a main unit this is almost always not true. Due to the small power sources in the head of the production units are rarely more than 15-60 watts TOTAL. This means that power to each channel during the peak load would be only one fourth of the total. Some manufacturers are better than others in giving the proper specifications and some models are available with sophisticated power supplies which have more power, but they are VERY expensive. If you are paying less than $ 800 for a head unit (and most of us!) Then his unit was not shut down much power. I've written a fuller explanation of the power amplifier specifications as well. Speakers who do not produce serious not consume nearly as much power so it can get away with using the main unit to feed them but use passive high pass crossovers (blockers bass) and play even stronger and cleaner. Note that the distortion can be higher than the main unit of an external amp however.
preamp outputs: This is a definite must for any serious drive in the head. These results allow you to run an amplifier directly without any conversion. This is the most clean out the head unit. Some units have multiple outputs and sometimes they met. Try to find the amount and type you need for your system, but take into account future updates. One is enough, but two can fade, or adjust the levels of several amps from the main unit. Some units the head now offer 4 volt outputs instead of 1.2 volts. This can be very beneficial since cars have a lot of electrical noise in them. The output of 4 volts is less susceptible to noise, however, you must make sure the amplifier or crossover that is connected to the output can handle 4 volts or you will not be able to use stress extra. If your unit does not have pre-amp level (RCA type) outputs you can buy an adapter that will convert your speaker level outputs to line level.
Car Audio Head Unit Power!
Car Stereo head unit's power is very misleading! main units have very high power ratings of the boxes or right in front of the units! The most powerful unit head that I've tried it was 13 watts ( a half way decent THD) … So even if the main unit, says 35Watts or 40 watts per channel into it, do not ever expect so you can really be over 15! Simply not possible.
The amplifier can generate much more power per channel that the car's head unit. Why can not a main unit to generate this kind of power?? The transformer converts the 12 volt car battery in a much higher voltage (in this case 36 volts and-36volts)? Main unit has no car a transformer to increase the tension (not enough room in it) the main unit can only limp trying to do a lot of power with the meager 12 volt car. More high-powered team used a bridgehead output (also called a floating floor or swing), the use of main units of an integrated circuit which makes both speaker cables to each work, together with a loudspeaker while pressing other strip (so to speak) as a natural amplifier does when it's bridge. But unlike a real amplifier, most car head units can not be without a bridge. But still, having no transformer in the main unit severely limited and its production will be around 12-13 watts speakers pr. Do not fall into the high power LIES.
